Faith, la foi. A word of great simplicity, of great polysemy, of great ambiguity (Latin fides: belief, loyalty, promise, protection, proof...) opening on immense interior or civilizational universes, individual, collective, cultural. An emotion, a conviction, a reason to be and to die that has given the world the most sublime and the worst of man. And countless ways of searching for what escapes reason, through love, knowledge, art, alongside the resounding failures of most religious institutions.
The photographs selected range from Cambodia to India, Russia, the Middle East, Europe and the United States. They seek to tell the visible part of what is played inside the men, women and places of faith, through the light, which the Franco-American-Vet Namese astrophysicist, Buddhist and Platonist Trin Xuan Thuan says she is "his companion". An expression that neither the believer nor the photographer should deny, without denying their own faith...
